hollylisle.com/fm/Articles/A wide variety of articles about writing, from character development to revision. I don't think I'm brave enough to try her "One-Pass Revision" techniques but that article still has lots of useful advice for revising. She also has free writing mini-courses.

The Snowflake Method www.advancedfictionwriting.com/art/snowflake.phpTen steps to developing your novel, from one-sentence idea to complete first draft. I've experimented with this and found the first four steps useful; by the time I get beyond that I feel ready to start writing the draft. (There are all kinds of books and courses and software for sale on the site, but the complete steps of the snowflake outline method are free on the website.) If you like to flesh out your ideas a little (or a lot) before you start writing, this method is helpful.

Absolute Write Water Cooler www.absolutewrite.com/forums/index.phpA massive writer's forum, for all kinds of writing: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc. Lots of very helpful and interesting stuff to read. The emphasis is heavily on getting published. so lots of angst about agents, queries, submissions, etc etc. But there's much that is useful and entertaining for beginning writers as well as dedicated amateurs (like me) as well. Includes a section where you can post part of your work and get critiques, but you have to be a registered member to even see it. I'm not, so I've haven't actually seen it.
