My excuse for quitting in the middle of a 15-minute session of typing in revisions on "starfire" is that there's a fluffy 12-pound cat lying right on top of my manuscript.
Of course, there's no manuscript so bad (or so good) that it can't be improved by the addition of a little cat floof.
(He's also attacking my hand while I'm trying to type this.)

More cat-related excuses: In November we got a 2nd cat (he belonged to a friend of mine who couldn't keep him). He was supposed to be an indoor cat, because I'm tired of losing cats, but he didn't agree with that. So I started taking him in the backyard on a leash. It got to where I was spending huge amounts of time each day outside with him, or letting him stay out on his own with the leash on and checking on him every 2 minutes (he'd go hide under our climbing fort where I couldn't reach him to bring him in) and going into the front yard to retrieve him when he escaped from the yard. This was very disruptive to having any kind of daily routine or getting anything done, and wore me out. So finally we decided to install a cat containment fence, to keep the cats in the yard. It took 5 days and was a lot of hard work and wore me out. Then we took our older son's kitten for the summer. At first the kitteh was kept in a box and was too small to be left loose in the room we set up for him, so I'd spend a lot of time in there letting him have time to exercise and get socialized. This took up a lot of time, and messed up my daily routines (not that I had any anymore) and wore me out. Now it's easier, now that he's big enough to not have to stay in a box any more. He's loose in his room, and can even come out and explore the house and visit the big cats sometimes. I still have to watch carefully to make sure no one gets hurt. It's always something
