Now that the first draft of "The Broken God" is finished and printed out, I'm going to let it sit for a while so I can finish editing "Starfire," the Sailor Moon fanfiction I wrote for National Novel Writing Month that I was halfway through revising when Roric and Perarre from "The Broken God" showed up and took over my brain for three months.
Not to bore you too much with the fandom details, but "Starfire" is another one of my novels about Nephrite, one of the Big Baddies from the first season of Sailor Moon, and Naru, the teenage superheroine Sailor Moon's best friend (who doesn't realize that her best friend is really Sailor Moon). Basically, Nephrite and Naru fall in love over the course of several episodes, then Nephrite dies protecting Naru from some of the other baddies. So sad So I write fanfictions where they get to have a happier ending.
"Starfire" was originally inspired by an episode later on in the first season, after Nephrite's death. This episode focuses on an artist who paints pictures depicting the characters' forgotten past lives (this backstory is crucial to the plot). One of the paintings shown seems to clearly depict Naru and Nephrite together in this past life. So I decided to run with who this artist might have really been back then, and what her role is in the present day.
I wrote about half of Starfire several years ago, but got bogged down in the plot and just wasn't really happy with it. So for NaNoWriMo last November, I changed a few things around and started from scratch and came up with something I'm much happier with. The readers of my Sailor Moon website have been waiting for years for this story to be finished.
