Right now I'm playing amateur architect, trying to design a floorplan and layout for Roric's apartment in The Empty God. It matters because some of the action depends on where a particular window is placed, and I also want to have a good idea of the arrangement of the different areas of the apartment (the study, the dining area, the bedroom). For this story I've also done online research on how tattoos are done in different cultures, bareback horse riding, and traditional Mongolian food.
What are some of the unusual and interesting things you've researched for your writing?

I am researching types of swords and duels with swords for a part in The Raiders. I recently decided that even though the people in The Raiders are highly advanced, they would still use swords along with their far more advanced weapons. I plan to have a fight at the end that, if all goes as planned, will briefly involve swords.
I have also looked up Atlantis and will (once I finish the Twin Kcors) research the Bermuda Triangle, various things about extraterrestrials, and submarines.

The next project is the above mentioned. I obviously haven't worked out the details yet, but it has to do with Atlantis being in the Bermuda Triangle. The extraterrestrials came from a friend of mine talking about the alien astronaut theory, which is the theory that in ancient times extraterrestrials arrived on Earth and showed people how to do stuff. So, I added extraterrestrials to the idea by making them have something to do with atlantis. That's as far as I got though.
I think I might know what LEGO theme you're talking about.
