While the revision of "The Empty God" marinates for a while, I'm working on two other previously abandoned projects. "Urdaisunia" goes back to probably 19 years ago. It's roughly inspired by the ancient Sumerian pantheon and also the physical setting. "Earthsinger" is probably 15-16 years old. I worked on it with my crit group which broke apart when one of our members (we only had three) became ill with leukemia (she passed away 14 years ago, shortly after my younger son was born). For this one I drew on my background in musicology, specifically my favorite area of transcribing the old medieval and rennaisance muscial neumes into modern notation. Each of these is about 2/3 written, though much of what I wrote before is unusable. Not as bad as my original 12-year-old draft of "The Empty God" which honestly made me want to gouge my eyes out with hot pokers when I read it. Writing so bad it physicallly HURT to read it. >.< What I'm doing with both stories is pasting together parts of the old writing I plan to use that fit with my new outlines together with newly-written text to cobble together a rough draft of each story. I'll change the things in the old text that really need to be changed (major changes in plot, characters' appearance or personality, dialogue that makes me want to barf, etc) then print out a manuscript for serious revising. I'm hoping to be able to finish this initial draft for both stories by the end of October so they aren't nagging at me during NaNo. Can I do it

Well, I finished the Urdaisunia draft before NaNo started. And a hideous thing it is too. Think Frankenstein's monster, pieced together of various bits and pieces of this and that. Old writing, relatively recent writing, and new zero-draft quality writing. But I have a beginning-to-end draft printed out and sitting in a binder waiting for me to take the red pen to it and start beating it into some kind of shape!
I started the Earthsinger draft a few days before NaNo, and thought I'd be able to work on it and my NaNo simulatneously, but the brain fog set in for the whole month and that didn't happen. I made a little progress, but not much. So my December project is to stitch together another Frankensteinian draft.
